This year, for the first time, SUMMA 2025 is supporting the street newspaper zebra., a social project by the association "OEW-Organisation für Eine solidarische Welt" by donating a portion of the entrance fees.
zebra. – A street newspaper offering new perspectives
For over ten years, zebra. has been a flagship project in South Tyrol, symbolizing solidarity, dignity, and social cohesion. It provides people who are facing social and economic challenges with the opportunity to reconnect with society, participate actively, and earn a temporary income, which helps them stand on their own feet.
Who is behind zebra.?
Around 60 vendors with diverse life stories sell zebra. on the streets of South Tyrol. Many face difficult circumstances, including financial struggles, migration challenges, or social isolation. Selling the newspaper gives them recognition, boosts their self-confidence, and offers them a new outlook on life.
How does zebra. work?
The vendors purchase the newspaper and sell it at double the cost, keeping the profit for themselves. In the process, they are assisted by two experienced social workers who support them during moments of crisis and help them with social, bureaucratic, and personal issues.
Why is zebra. important?
zebra. makes social injustices visible by writing articles that shed light on them. It gives its vendors a voice and raises readers’ awareness of pressing social issues. Furthermore, the encounters between vendors and readers on the streets foster understanding and build bridges between people from different parts of society.
